CALLIGRAPHY, CAKE AND COMMUNITY | Darion Balfour

Two years ago I had the absolute pleasure of attending a class taught by miss Brittany Dakins herself. I was absolutely captivated by Brittany’s confidence, clarity and love of customer service during her presentation at the iMedia conference that I decided to introduce myself afterward.

I learned that she moved from Toronto to Edmonton, adored spending time in the mountains with her now fiance and their pup, Bubba, and was an incredibly talented local artist. She took her very first lettering workshop at The Paint Spot here in Edmonton and those skills, along with her passion for creating, skyrocketed her calligraphy business. We connected on the gram (yes, I just said ‘the gram’) and the rest is history.

I’m so happy our schedules aligned and I was able to capture her Calligraphy Lettering Workshop at The Art of Cake. Brittany put on a fabulous two-hour guided event in partnership with Events by Ace’d. If you’ve never heard of The Art of Cake, it’s one of Edmonton’s trendiest, most delicious cafe’s. Seriously – run, don’t walk! As an Edmonton Wedding Photographer I’m often tasting their sweet treats at my weddings. I may be a little biased – but their cookie dough cheesecake is to die for.

Alright Darion, back to business. Don’t let the power of cookie dough cheesecake cloud your thoughts.

Brittany, you’ve inspired so many local business owners, creative artists, brides and local businesses to embrace their wild, try something new and step out of their comfort zone. The universe aligned our paths for a reason and I am forever in your debt for showing me what it means to connect in the world of business and the community we serve. It’s no coincidence that on the day of capturing this workshop I actually delivered my first presentation and public speaking event with Social School.

You are amazing, Brittany.
